Sore ThroatX

Scratchy, burning, dry, irritated throat? Do you have a fever? The most common cause of a bacterial infection causing sore throat is strep throat. Strep throat causes an inflamed throat with white patches, fever, and malaise.

Antibiotics treatment for strep throat:

• Gets you feeling better faster.
• Reduces the time that you are contagious.
• Reduces the risk of complications such as heart valve damage or kidney damage.

A negative strep test does not mean you do not have strep. Up to 20 percent of negative strep tests are actually wrong. The FDA requires a negative rapid strep to be confirmed by a throat culture.

If you want to know for sure if you have strep throat, having a throat culture done in person is best. Keep in mind that while you wait the 2-3 days for the results, you may be contagious.

We can issue a new prescription for many medications. Please send us a picture of the prescription, or prescription bottles with your name, date, and medication name visible. We can let you know before the visit starts if your medication can be prescribed.
